What do you believe?
No, really. Strip away the church you go to, the traditions you’ve inherited, the answers you know you’re “supposed” to give.
When the noise dies down and life hits hard—what truth are you standing on?
That’s the question at the heart of the Apostles’ Creed. This isn’t just an old church statement. It’s a battle cry. A foundation. A line in the sand.
What Is the Apostles’ Creed?
The Apostles’ Creed is one of the oldest and most unifying summaries of Christian belief—spoken by believers across the globe for nearly two millennia.
It goes like this:
I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit; born of the virgin Mary;
Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead, and buried.
He descended to hell; the third day He rose again from the dead;
He ascended to heaven and sits on the right hand of the Father Almighty,
From whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy catholic church, the communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
Amen.
The word “creed” comes from the Latin credo, which means “I believe.” Not just “I acknowledge” or “I kind of agree when it’s convenient.” It means this is what I stand on.
Why It Still Matters
We live in a time where truth is constantly shifting. Culture rewrites definitions. Social media floods you with opinions. Even within churches, clarity can get lost in noise.
That’s where the Creed helps.
- It anchors your faith in something solid.
- It summarizes the Scripture clearly.
- It connects you to the global, historical Church.
In the video, I walk through why creeds aren’t about replacing Scripture—they’re about reminding us what it teaches, in clear, unforgettable ways.
How It Changes Your Life
If we really believe what the Creed says, it changes how we live:
- If you believe in the resurrection, you don’t live in fear of death.
- If you believe in forgiveness of sins, you stop living in shame.
- If you believe Jesus is Lord, then He gets your allegiance—not just when it’s easy.
This isn’t about reciting something to check a religious box. This is about internalizing these truths so they shape your life, decisions, and identity.
So… What Do You Believe?
That’s the real question. Not what your church believes. Not what your family believes. What you believe.
The first words of the Apostles’ Creed are “I believe.”
If your belief isn’t grounded in truth—if it’s just cultural or convenient—it won’t hold up when things get hard.
But if it’s rooted in who God really is, what Christ really did, and what the Spirit is doing now… that’s a faith that stands.
